"Command, this is Vasquez. I've found a temporal vessel."

"Copy, Odyssey. Proceed with caution."

Kaelen appeared beside her. "It's a First Ones' experiment. A ship that can move through time."

"Can we communicate with it?"

"We can try."

The ship stabilized, and a figure appeared on the viewscreen-tall, silver-skinned, its eyes ancient.

"I am Kaelen," it said. "I have been searching for someone to help me."

"Help you with what?" Elena asked.

"My ship is damaged. I need parts from your time to repair it."

"We can help," Elena said. "But you must tell us where you're from."

"I am from the future. A time when the Devourers have won. I came back to change the past."

Elena's jaw tightened. "Then we will help you."

The Odyssey provided the parts, and the time ship flickered away.

"Command, the temporal vessel has departed."

"Copy, Odyssey. Good work. Come home."

Elena looked at the empty space, at the future that might be changed.

The universe was vast.

And full of mysteries.
